Episode 113 - Timeline and Fat Slags

It's time once again for another movie about time-travel! This time around we have 2003's Timeline. When scientists accidentally discover a way to travel back in time to 1357 France, it's not long before they end up accidentally stranding a team of archaeologists there. Can they make it back to their own time? Will they alter the course of history? And do you really want to be making out with someone in the era before dental hygiene was really a thing? All these questions and more are answered in Timeline

If someone ever does invent a time-travel machine, they may well want to think about going back to 2004 and stopping this week's bottom 100 film, Fat Slags, from ever getting made. As you would expect there are a lot of bad films in the bottom 100 list but this is one that really earns its place.

Episode 112 - City Under Siege and The Beast of Yucca Flats.mp3

In main film this week is a cheesy Hong Kong action film called City Under Siege. Sunny's dream is to be the Flying Dagger, just like his father! Sadly, his knife-skills are somewhat lacking so he's forced to work as a clown in his uncle's circus. But when Sunny and some of the other circus performers get dosed with some leftover experimental chemicals from World War 2, suddenly everyone's got super powers (and some less desirable side-effects). While the others use their new found powers to embark on a life of crime, Sunny realizes he can finally be the hero he's always wanted to be.

Then in our bottom 100 film, it's The Beast of Yucca Flats. Tor Johnson is an defecting Russian scientist but while escaping some Kremlin baddies he ends up being accidentally exposed to a nuclear blast. Sadly he doesn't really get any cool superpowers (unless you count mild special effects make-up as a power) but it does turn him into a mindless beast so that's something. This movie also features some of the best narration known to humanity. Truly a film for the ages.

Episode 111 - The To Do List and Turks in Space

The year is 1993 and Brandy Clark has just graduated as class valedictorian. She's looking forward to higher education but is she really ready for the full university education? To find out, Trevor and Gabbie review The To Do List.

Then, for our bottom 100 film, it turns out they made a sequel to the legendary Turkish Star Wars. In Turks in Space Captain Kartel is continuing his unrelenting search for his lost protege, Gokmen, but his twin brother, Zaldabar (who doesn't even know he is Kartel's brother as the evil emperor Uga kidnapped Zaldabar as an infant and raised him as his own) is after Gokmen to for more nefarious reasons. How will this film compare to the other two Turkish comedies on the bottom 100 list? You'll have to listen to find out!

Episode 110 - Timecop and Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders

Time travel movies often grapple with difficult questions. Can one alter the past? Is free will an illusion? How many guys can Jean-Claude Van Damme beat up? Well, Timecop attempts to answer at least one of these questions.

Then in our bottom 100 film, have you ever wondered what would happen if Merlin existed in modern day America? If you guessed that he would set up his own magic shop in an attempt to bring joy to the world, you would be surprisingly prescient. Perhaps you are some sort of wizard yourself? In Merlin's Mystical Shop of Wonders Merlin attempts to spread joy by getting revenge on mean critics and letting a thief steal an evil toy monkey. What fun!

Episode 109 - Spring Breakers and Disaster Movie

Winter is fast approaching so what better time for a spring break film? I guess that's what Gabbie was thinking because this week we are reviewing Spring Breakers. When four college girls find they haven't saved nearly enough to go on their spring break adventure they find a solution (armed robbery, of course) and soon they are on their way. What could possibly go wrong?

Then in our bottom 100 movie, do you remember what the big movies for the first half of 2008 were? If not, you are about to find out as we review Disaster Movie. Will we be able to refrain from making the obvious "it's a disaster" joke? Listen in to find out!

Episode 108 - American Horror Story

This week we take a look at the excellent TV show, American Horror Story. Do you want a show about a family moving into a very haunted house? Then season one has you covered. If you would rather a show about a 60s asylum with mad scientists, demonic possession, serial killers and even some aliens, then season two is the one for you. If on the other hand you are more into the whole witch thing, then look to season three. The series definitely covers a lot of ground! Trevor and Gabbie share their thoughts on each season of the show.

Episode 107 - Silver Bullet and Hobgoblins

We continue the Halloween theme (at least tangentially) this week with Stephen King's Silver Bullet. When a werewolf starts to terrorize your town, who are you going to turn to? Why none other than Corey Haim and Gary Busey, of course!

Then in our bottom 100 movie, we talk about a gremlins rip-off that is much-beloved by many bad movies fans. That's right, it's Hobgoblins

Episode 106 - Pumpkinhead and The Apocalypse

Halloween is getting closer and to celebrate that fact, this week we are reviewing Pumpkinhead. When Ed Harley's (played by none other than Lance Henriksen) son is killed by a drunken teen, he turns to blood vengeance. But does getting demonic assistance ever turn out for the best? We will find out.

Then in the bottom 100 movie, a giant asteroid is on its way and poised to wipe out all life on Earth. Apparently it's also Rapture time! That's The Apocalypse for you!

Episode 105 - Children of the Corn 3 and Pod People

This week we resume our journey though the Children of the Corn franchise with Children of the Corn 3: Urban Harvest. After the not-so-disappearance of their father, Joshua and Eli leave Gatlin and meet their adopted parents in the big city. Can Joshua learn to fit in? Will Eli continue his sinister corn experiments?

Then for our bottom 100 movie, we have a horrible ET rip-off, Pod People. Poachers find some alien eggs, a mediocre band goes on a camping trip and a little boy befriends a baby alien. Wackiness ensues!

All that and a bit more, this week on Failing Grade.

Episode 104 - Shock and Awe 7

Scheduling conflicts kind of mess up the original plan for this week's episode, but on the upside, that means it's our second Shock and Awe recap episode. Shock and Awe is a really fun event covering a wide assortment of films. There's something for everyone (as long as everyone includes only people who enjoy the obscure, the low-budget, the bizarre and sometimes the terrible). In this epsiode, we talk about a fun spaghetti western, a not-so-fun Jack the Ripper film, a bizarre ET rip-off and more!
